Music Engraving
The art of music engraving as transitioned over the years to what it is today, digital masterpieces. With the aid of specialized software, the task of notating music by hand or carving music into plates is a thing of the past. However, just purchasing notation software doesn’t make you able to engrave music any more than purchasing a plane would make you a pilot.
A quality music engraver is familiar with the current industry practices and demonstrates extensive knowledge in the area of music publishing. The music engraver is both artist and graphic designer, alway giving attention to every detail of the layout. The finished manuscript is his masterpiece.
With that in mind, contact me if you are considering having your music published. I can assure your music will be both beautiful to look at and clearly understood. Our goal is to make your music project a work of art worth sending to a publisher or if you so wish, for you to self publish your work.
Most music composers, orchestrators and arrangers widely use either Finale or Sibelius as their choice for notation software. As a music publisher, I find both of these programs valuable to the music engraving process. The mastery of these programs has been well worth the time and effort.
RATES:
My rates vary depending on the complexity of the music, legibility of the manuscript or score, and time pressure. Scores are generally charged by the measure or the finished page. Orchestra parts are almost always charged by the finished page.
For layout and book design I prefer InDesign and usually charge by the hour or project.
For projects requiring cover or logo work, our graphic design team can easily assist in that task too. We also work closely with several printers familiar with printing music so your project fits the industry standard in size.
