Take My Life and Let It Be
Music Meditations
Bible Reading: Romans 12
Memorize: Romans 12:1-2
While visiting with some friends at the Areley House in England in 1874, Frances Ridley Havergal became burdened for the many lost souls who had gathered. She prayed “Lord, give me all in this house,” and that is what He did. One by one she spoke words of encouragement to those who were lost until at last she had seen all trust in the Lord.
As she retired for the night she found herself too happy to sleep. Most of the night was spent in praise and self-consecration. She found herself forming little couplets in her heart, one after another, until she reached the thought, “Ever, only, all for Thee!” The Lord had bought her one step closer to understanding what must be sacrificed in order for her to yield her life wholly to Jesus.
Four years later, the Lord showed her what “Take my silver and my gold” now meant. She realized, as did the disciples, that in order to be fully consecrated to Christ meant forsaking her nets. Her net was her possessions, so she willingly gave her fine jewelry to the Christian mission, asking nothing in return.
What are you holding on to that keeps you from being consecrated to the Lord? Consecration starts with giving one’s self to Him. II Corinthians 8:5 “but first gave ourselves to the Lord…” After that, it is a daily, and moment-by-moment yielding to the will of God.
